Part 1 - Dealer Car Manager

having hands on involvement in the development of the business and its product lines.
Dennis started his working life as a motor trader and continued to excel in the motor trade as dealer principal in several franchised dealership sites taking them into unprecedented growth and earning a name as a guy who could drive dealer groups forward. He is very well respected in the motor trade and has operated sites from small private sales pitches through large van sales operations to huge main manufacturer sites from Toyota to Fiat. He has probably sold just about every make and manufacturer vehicles there are to sell.
Not satisfied with just managing successful operations, Dennis was a problem solver. Where there is a problem there is always a solution that will change the practice of the motor trade. Dennis saw the problem with courtesy cars and demonstrators in that you never knew who had what, for how long, who caused the damage when they were out and who should the speeding notices and parking fines be directed too?
As an entrepreneur, Dennis decided to fix that problem and left his secure job with a main dealer as its dealer principal and set up in his daughter’s bedroom to create a software programme to manage the courtesy cars and demonstrators. All Dennis and Gill’s savings gone and house re-mortgage later together with 2 years of hard development (learning how to code) and Dennis was ready to go to market with Dealer Car Manager. He had the inspiration to combine daily insurance with a software programme to manage courtesy cars and demonstrators and Aviva (then Norwich Union) provided the insurance cover. With money drying up he nearly called it quits and went back selling cars. The concept was new and it was hard to sell the benefits to dealers, but 100,000 miles travelling in a year in an old Mondeo together with Dennis’s sales skills, which are famous, and he started to have a business covering its expenses. It was not without massive personal pain and stress but his innate drive pushed him on. He was not going to fail.
The turning point was winning the Motor Trader Innovation Award in 2002 which was a fantastic accolade for the software. From there on in the sales were easier and the growth was astronomical.
Dennis changed the practice in franchised dealerships and his innovation is now the norm within that industry. There are very few people who can lay claim to creating a new motor insurance product.
Part 2 - The Birth of Dayinsure
Dennis was not satisfied with creating one new motor insurance product, but went on to create a second new product which he called Dayinsure. This was extending the
daily car insurance
concept to the general public and selling it only on-line. Aviva backed the product and it went to market in 2005 selling £78 insurance in its first month.
Dennis sold DCML (Dealer Car Manager) in 2006 and kept Dayinsure, setting it up in its own offices in Cheshire. He put together a new management team to run the business and to drive it forward. Despite having become a multi-millionaire with sale of DCML, Dennis drove Dayinsure to unprecedented growth spending most days in his office working like a Trojan for 5 years. The dayinsure story was not without its own pain as fraud almost destroyed the product, but by taking harsh decisions and attacking the fraud, Dennis and his team were able to transform the business into a successful, growing business with a good loss ratio and a bright future.

Dennis might be more relaxed these days and able to spend time with his family or racing his car round the tracks or sailing his boat, but those who know him, know that he has not stopped innovating and he will deliver new products. Watch this space.
